City Manager Scott Wood on Thursday announced during the City Council work session the city hired Susan Stanton to take the place of Coty Ervin, who left the position in September.
Stanton is an attorney by trade and had been doing contract work with the Georgia Attorney’s General office.
Stanton, who started on Nov. 21, will have a salary of $50,000.
Wood said Stanton has a “strong interest in city government,” but has a learning curve in the job.
He did note her legal background “gives her a distinctive advantage” to manage record keeping.
The city clerk is responsible for keeping an accurate account of official City Council meetings and the maintenance of ordinances, contracts, resolutions and agreements.
The Council also:
* Reviewed implementing a residential plan review fee of $100 per plan submitted for new construction and $25 per plan submitted for additions or alterations;
* Discussed implementing a water rebate program for residents who install low flow/dual flush toilets;
* Reviewed bids to install a 15 kW solar photovoltaic system at the Canton Police Department;
* Approved awarding a bid to Noland Construction to demolish the home at 140 Jarvis St. for $14,175 contingent upon asbestos abatement comes in under $5,000; and
* Directed City Manager Scott Wood to review what other municipalities are doing to incorporate fees for separate Sunday alcohol sales licenses.
