The gala fundraiser to benefit the Service League of Cherokee County and its projects is set for April 28 at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center at the Bluffs. This year’s event marks the 46th annual Service League Ball and the second year to feature the dancing competition.
This year’s gala show features seven couples who are volunteering their time in the coming weeks to prepare for the competition to raise money for to serve the needy children of Cherokee County.
Most of the couples include one celebrity and one professional dancer, mirroring the popular television show, “Dancing with the Stars.” The names of this year’s dancers were announced this week.
Among those who are dancing this year are Darrek Cornelison, the vice president and City Executive of Community Bank and Trust in Canton and professional dancer April Turner of MODA Creative Artists.
Other couples include Will Hopkins, owner of Fleu de Coop Antiques and Katerina Saemisken of Let’s Dance; Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather partnering up with Laura Mikszan of World of Gymnastics and Cheer; and Wanda Roach, a Realtor with ERA Sunrise Realty, teamed up with John Vasicak, the owner of Cherokee Rhythm and Smooth.
Amanda Slauson, Northside Hospital - Cherokee executive assistant –administration will take te dance floor with partner Matthew Walters of Cherokee Rhythm and Smooth.
Amy Turcotte, Female Sports Director at Fellowship of Christian Athletes is paired with Cherokee County Solicitor General David Cannon, Jr.
“Dancing for the Children” is set from 6 p.m. to midnight at 1130 Bluffs Parkway in Canton.
Admission is $50 per ticket and $1,000 for a VIP table. Cocktails start at 6 p.m. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. The celebrity dance competition starts at 8 p.m.
The League is more than 75 years old and uses all proceeds from the fundraiser to serve the needy children of Cherokee County.
