Mr. Wincle “Al” Alphonse Estapa, 89, of Woodstock, died Thursday, June 14, 2012 with family by his side at Heritage Hospice following a period of declining health. Al was born May 29, 1923 in Gulfport, Mississippi to Alphonse and Ruby Dorman Estapa. He volunteered and served his country well in the U.S. Army from August 1943 to December 1945. He received Campaign Ribbons for Normandy, Northern France and Rhineland. He worked for several years with United Fruit Lines, which is now Chiquita Banana, as a ships Purser and retired in 1967. During many of his retirement years, Al volunteered at the V.A. Hospital in Miami, FL. In addition to his parents, Mr. Estapa is preceded in death by his wife; Lydia Montoya Estapa, sisters; Ruby Ladner and Iva Minchew. Survivors include his brother and sister-in-law; Robert E. and Ora Estapa of Canton, Ten Nieces and Nephews other relatives and loving friends. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:30 am, Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton. Rev. Jim McRae will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday, June 18, 2012 at Lakeside Funeral Home from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests to please make donations to the Heritage Hospice, 3315 Hilltop Drive, Marietta, GA 30066.
