Mr. Melvin Abernathy, 82, of Ellijay passed away on Thursday, January 17, 2013 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the Sosebee Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Ware and Rev. Dan Henderson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakdale Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. at the funeral home. Mr. Abernathy was a Korean War Veteran and a member of Oakdale Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, June Abernathy; children, Melva (Robert) Fowler, Teri (Rex) Jones and Tony Abernathy; grandchildren, Jason Smith, Derek Smith, Nathan Jones and Tori Abernathy; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
