Records posted Thursday show the extent of wear in 3,400 tubes that carry radioactive water in the plant’s troubled steam generators. The tube wear caused by vibration and friction was found in 15,000 places at varying degrees of erosion.
The report has implications for the fate of the plant shut down since January.
Southern California Edison earlier disclosed about 1,300 tubes were taken out of service, either because of heavy wear or as a precaution. Tubes have to be retired if more than a third of the alloy tube wall wears away.
The records show that in the Unit 3 reactor tube damage exceeded 50 percent in 280 places.
