Thirteen volunteers with Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services became registered firefighters during ceremonies at the Ball Ground United Methodist Church in December.

Chief Robert Dobbs with the Ball Ground Volunteer Fire Department and Chief Larry Berry with the Hickory Flat Volunteer Fire Department provided comments during the ceremony and Assistant Chief Eddie Robinson served as the keynote speaker.

Additionally, two firefighters received special awards. Nathanael Seidel received the Pinnacle Award and Justin Ison was the recipient of the Lewis Williams Outstanding Achievement Award.

Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, said the volunteers who participated in the course learned the fundamentals of fire behavior, including the proper use of water supplies, protective equipment, breathing apparatuses and hose nozzles, as well as techniques in forcible entry, fire streams, suppression, ventilation and other necessary topics.

“Volunteers in this class also traveled to the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth to participate in training in the live fire burn building,” Cavender said.

The volunteers that came forward to receive their certificates of completion were Michael Beasley, Zach Bower, Kenneth Buckles, Alex Carstens, Chase Gazaway, Ison, Michael R. Morgan, Nathan O’Neil, Gerald Riordan, Seidel, Jordan Steele, Jack Tuszynski and Tyler Wyatt.
