ATLANTA (AP) — Authorities say an alleged Baltimore drug kingpin who may have been trying to expand his operation in Atlanta and has been arrested.

U.S. Marshals spokesman Gavin Duffy says Jeffrey Cofield was arrested Wednesday night after authorities with the U.S. Marshals in the Washington, D.C. area told them Cofield had recently relocated from Baltimore to Atlanta.

Duffy tells the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Cofield is a person of interest in a drug-related slaying and on several weapons charges in Baltimore.

Authorities say Cofield was arrested without incident at a condominium in the Buckhead area. Authorities say two of Cofield’s unidentified associates have also been arrested.

Duffy says Cofield is in federal custody and will likely be extradited to Maryland. It is unclear if Cofield has an attorney.
