Mr. Buford Lee Burton, 91, of Woodstock, GA., passed away early Friday June 15, 2012 at Emeritus of Woodstock after a long illness. Funeral services will be held 7 P.M. Monday June 18, 2012 at Heritage Presbyterian Church with the Revs. Sid Gunter and Keith Gunter, and Elder Clay Gunter officiating. A reception will follow in the Mission and Ministry Center. Burial will follow in Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston, AL. on Tuesday June 19, 2012 with Woodstock Funeral Home directing. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Heritage Presbyterian Church for Kevin’s Garden, 5323 Bells Ferry Road Northwest, Acworth, GA 30102. Buford was born in Polk County, Georgia on January 2, 1921 to the late John Henry and Mary Lessie Shaw Burton. Mr. Burton graduated from Cedartown High School and later received specialized training as a B-24 bomber instrument specialist from the U.S. Army Air Force where he served in active duty during World War II. He was married to the former Louise Treadaway formerly of Anniston, AL. They were married over 69 years. After serving in World War II Mr. Burton worked in retail sales. He enjoyed gardening, painting, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. He was also actively involved in the Methodist Church volunteering in numerous capacities and receiving a lifetime achievement award from the Briarcliff United Methodist Church Women. 60 years to the date of his induction into the U.S. Army he was honored as Walt Disney World’s Veteran of the Day. He was also an Officer of the Atlanta Garden Club. Mr. Burton is preceded in death by an infant son, his parents and siblings. Buford is survived by his loving wife Louise, his daughter and son-in-law, Joan (Rev. Sid) Gunter, Woodstock; three grandchildren, Clay (Laura) Gunter, Mandy (Cale) Collins, of Woodstock, Rev. Keith (Amy) Gunter, Hendersonville, TN; seven great-grandchildren, Brittany and Sydney Gunter, Zachary, Taylor, and Grace Collins, Autumn and Noah Gunter. Online condolences may be made to:
