Alexis Chumbler is having a standout season with the Reinhardt softball team.

The Creekview High School product is batting .379 on the season with 21 RBIs, 10 extra-base hits and 15 stolen bases. She ranks second on the team in both batting average and stolen bases.

However, Chumbler might have just played her best week yet.

The outfielder hit .643 with nine runs scored and seven RBIs last week as Reinhardt swept a pair of doubleheaders. The performance was enough that the Appalachian Athletic Conference named Chumbler its player of the week.

In the first game of the Lady Eagles’ doubleheader with Bryan College, Chumbler went 2-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a run scored. She followed that with a 2-for-3 performance with an RBI and three runs scored in Game 2.

During Saturday’s sweep of Columbia College, which helped the Lady Eagles clinch the AAC’s regular-season title, Chumbler went 3-for-4 with a double and two runs in the opening game. In Game 2, she was 3-for-3 with two home runs and four RBIs.

Reinhardt coach Glen Crawford said Chumbler has developed quickly in her first season with the Lady Eagles.

“Alexis has really stepped her game up in the past few weeks,” Crawford said. “We don’t have a team of superstars, but we have a team of very good players that make up our lineup. Having Alexis develop into one of those players makes our whole team better. I’m very happy she was recognized with this award.”

Reinhardt (34-3, 16-0) had won 22 straight games going into Tuesday night’s doubleheader against AAC rival Montreat College.
