The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Canton City Hall.
City leaders would like to build a new fire station on land set aside in the Laurel Canyon subdivision which, if all goes to plan, could be open by 2013.
The city would like to build a new station along Commerce Boulevard, which would ideally be open in 2014.
The council earlier this month voted to override Mayor Gene Hobgood’s veto of a fire district ordinance.
The ordinance would allow the council to establish a millage rate to fund the construction of the new stations, but allow for the station’s operations and other costs related to personnel and training to remain funded by the city’s general fund budget.
The council will also consider the first reading of revisions to the fire district ordinance, which clarifies that taxes collected from the district will be used to enhance fire protection.
The city council will also consider the second reading of its Fiscal Year 2013 budget.
The proposed budget is set at $31 million, down slightly from $32 million.
The balanced budget does not include a millage rate increase, any furloughs or layoffs.
It does have money set aside for the city to consider merit pay increases for qualified employees.
It’s also based upon the city leaving its millage rate of 6.88 unchanged.
A homeowner of a $200,000 house with a standard $5,000 exemption paid about $510 in property taxes this year.
Other items on the agenda include:
* Consider approval of a proclamation for Collins Dixon Day;
* Hear a request from FactoryMation to reduce its building permit fee;
* Consider approval of an insurance license fee increase to $75;
*Consider approval of a resolution to establish an administrative fee of $25 for new and renewing occupational tax licenses in the city;
* Consider approval of a memorandum of understanding to allow Northside Hospital-Cherokee to maintain and utilize the west Lakeview water tank as a back-up water supply for its campus;
*Consider approval of a contract with Utility Partners for water and sewer operations;
* Discuss and consider approval of stormwater projects and rate reduction;
* Discuss and consider approval of proceeding with approving its share of the SCADA computer monitoring system at the Hickory Log Creek Reservoir;
*Discuss and consider approval of a request from the Cherokee County Board of Education to allow Academy Street between West Main Street and Archer Street be designated as a two-way street and to designate the same portion as a no-parking zone;
* Consider approval to accept the private streets from the Villas at RiverStone subdivision; and
*Consider moving into executive session to discuss potential litigation.
