Sequoyah was led by senior co-captain Chris Costa (16 minutes, 37.14 seconds), who pulled away from Creekview’s Brennan Garriques (16:38.05) down the stretch to win the race. Costa and Garriques ran stride for stride most of the race.
Sequoyah won the event with 57 points, with Creekview second at 114.
Also scoring for Sequoyah and finishing in the top 20 overall were senior co-captains Zach Moore and Ryan McNeal, and juniors Blake Wise and Robert Carter. Finishing strong and just outside the top 20 for the Chiefs were Rees Hatch, Mitchell Peters, Dalton Trapnau.
Creekview was also represented by Grant Slater (ninth), Nick Turano (17th) and Ellijah Cloy (39th).
Next week, both teams travel to Berry College for the Clara Bowl Invitational, where they will also compete against Cherokee, River Ridge, and Woodstock.
The Creekview girls were just as dominant as the Sequoyah boys with five finishers in the top 20.
The Lady Grizzlies were led by senior Lera McNamara (20:57.10) in fourth place and Rachel Boulineau (21:04.20) in fifth place. Also finishing in the top 20 were Camille Fahrnbauer (10th) and Lauren Johnson (11th). In her first race Annie Conrad, who is also a member of the Creekview softball team, finished 20th.
Sequoyah was led by senior Jessica Weems (21:50.50) in ninth place and Morgan Free (22:14.40) in 14th. Also running strong for the Lady Chiefs were freshman Emily Fudge (26th), Kiley Howard, Madison Stout, and Megan McNeal.
In the girls standings, Newnan placed second with 74 points and Woodward Academy was third with 85 points. Sequoyah (135) was sixth.
