The Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council is looking to make Christmas a little brighter for seniors in the county, and anyone wanting to help can pick up a few simple items and drop them off at the Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency in Woodstock.

VAC is collecting gifts for the Adopt-a-Senior program through Dec. 7.

Terrycloth towel sets, lotion, stationary and envelopes and 20-count sheets of stamps are the items on this year’s wish list.

“We try to do something different every year, but something people can actually use,” Benny Carter, chairman of the VAC, said.

Gifts should be placed in a gift bag with a special note for the senior and delivered to CRPA.

Cherokee County Senior Services will deliver gift bags to seniors who are served through Meals on Wheels, Congregate Meals or Homemaker programs.

“We know many seniors in Cherokee County depend on Meals on Wheels for food and contact, so a special visit in December with a gift provided for them can make the difference for their holiday season,” Carter said.

Monetary donations for VAC’s programs are also welcome, Carter said.

Woodstock Market is partnering with VAC to collect necessities for seniors. Anyone wanting to donate can drop off items such as cotton swabs, bandages, toothpaste, washcloths, pens, stamps, envelopes and other toiletries inside the store on Bells Ferry Road.

The City of Holly Springs is raising money for the VAC through the Tree of Hope in downtown Holly Springs.

Ornaments for the tree are available for a $10 donation in honor or memory of loved ones. Donations will help fund Last Stop, a VAC initiative to help seniors with expenses.

The tree will be lit in a special ceremony at the historic train depot Saturday at 6:30 p.m. All contributions made by Monday will be recognized at the ceremony, which will include refreshments and entertainment.
