CANTON — Bob Barr announced Monday that Cherokee County Manager Jerry Cooper will be the Cherokee County chairman for his campaign for the 11th Congressional District seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, who is running for the U.S. Senate in 2014.
“Jerry is a key leader in Cherokee County, well known as a man of character and integrity,” Barr said in a news release. “And I am glad to have him as a part of my campaign team.”
Former state representative and Barr Congress Chairman Tom Wilder said the campaign is “proud” to welcome Cooper, “a respected leader in Cherokee with a much deserved reputation for being a leader who cares about people.”
So far two other candidates have announced for the seat, state Sen. Barry Loundermilk (R-Cassville) who serves southwest Cherokee County and Bartow County in the Senate District 14 seat and state Rep. Ed Lindsey (R-Buckhead), the state House Majority Whip.
