Leading the way with five all-region selections were Etowah, Creekview and River Ridge.
First-year Etowah coach Victoria Brown felt the number of selections for the Lady Eagles was justified.
“I think it was what we expected,” said Brown, who led Etowah to the state playoffs after finishing third in the Region 5AAAAAA tournament. “It shows that a lot of our girls went above and beyond and pushed themselves every day.”
Making the all-Region 5AAAAAA first team from the Lady Eagles were Torrie Garner, Courtney Atkinson, Bridgette Flaherty and Allie Brown. Grayson Lutz was an honorable mention.
Garner was also the only Etowah player to be named first-team all-state, with Atkinson an honorable mention.
Brown wasn’t just satisfied with the number of selections from the Lady Eagles’ roster, but from the county as well.
“(The selections) show the rich amount of talent we have in this county and in our regions,” Brown said. “It shows how far the county has come throughout the years.”
The five players representing Creekview, which was the only team in the county to make it to the second round of the state playoffs, in Region 7AAAAA were Ashley Chumbler, Casee Disharoon, Cynda Tate, Gracie Dorr and Madison Luck.
Region 7AAAA (A) champion River Ridge was represented by three first-team players — Emma Pope, Jessica Baker and Sara Bennetts — and honorable mentions Michelle Friesz and Kiley Rediger.
Pope was also named the subregion pitcher of the year.
Sequoyah saw four of its players — Katie Collis, Courtney Gibbs, Hannah Kidd and Liz Prance — named to the Region 7AAAAA team.
Cherokee saw three of its players named to the 5AAAAAA team, with Layken Adkins an honorable mention and the duo of Savanna Dover and Anna Rowe placed on the first team.
Dover, who recorded 234 strikeouts on the year, was also named the region’s pitcher of the year, as well as an all-state first-teamer.
Woodstock also found itself represented by three players — Elizabeth Hamilton, Caroline Nolen and Carolyn Edwards.
Hamilton was the lone Lady Wolverine to make the Region 5AAAAAA first team.
