Elderly woman dies after middle Georgia nursing home fire

MACON, Ga. (AP) — An elderly woman has died roughly a week after a fire tore through the middle Georgia nursing home she lived in.

Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones says 82-year-old Betty Smith died Monday in the intensive care unit at the Medical Center of Central Georgia. The Telegraph of Macon reports Smith was one of 11 people who was hospitalized after the fire at the Rosewood Nursing Center March 25.

Authorities say she suffered smoke inhalation.
