Selene Bloodworth Hendrix, age 94, of Athens passed away May 29, 2013. She was the daughter of the late Bartley Richard (B. R.) and Emma Freeman Bloodworth of Athens. She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur M. Hendrix, Sr. Mrs. Hendrix graduated from Athens High School; and attended the University of Georgia where she graduated in 1940. In 1942 she married Dr. Arthur Hendrix, Sr. After his medical service in World War II, they moved to Canton, Ga. where they raised their family and lived until 1980. During their years in Canton Mrs. Hendrix was very active in the community. She was a member of the First Baptist Church and held various administrative positions in her garden club, Canton Jr. Service League, and Cherokee County Library Board. She was Woman of the Year in 1978. In 1980 Dr. and Mrs. Hendrix moved to her hometown of Athens. She was a member Athens First Baptist Church, Athens Jr. League, Athens Study Club, Athens Country Club and the Roadrunners. Her favorite past time was playing bridge with her many friends in both Canton and Athens. Her survivors include three daughters: Louise Forrester of Gainesville, Ga., Nancy Hendrix MD of Athens, and Martha Howell of Athens, one son: Arthur Hendrix, Jr., MD and wife Jeanne; one sister: Rue Walker of Athens. She was adored by her 6 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 3:00 pm at the Chapel of Bridges Funeral Home, 3035 Atlanta Hwy. Athens, In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church of Athens, 355 Pulaski St, Athens, Ga. 30601-2860 or a charity or your choice.
