Judge hopefuls report deficits

CANTON — Both candidates for Superior Court Judge have raised similar amounts of funds, but both report a deficit at the end of the June 30 reporting period.

Mark Shriver and David Cannon Jr. have both filed their campaign disclosure reports with the Georgia Government Transparency and Campaign Finance Commission’s office.

According to his report, Cannon has raised $10,400 in total contributions for the reporting period, but reported total expenditures of $11,613.33, leaving his campaign with a deficit of $1,213.33 on hand.

Cannon also lent himself $3,000 toward his campaign during the reporting period.

Some notable contributors to Cannon’s campaign include his father, attorney David Cannon Sr., for $262.60 for food at a fundraiser; Edna Cook, Waleska city councilwoman, for $200; Cherokee Chief Assistant Solicitor General Barry Hixson for $1,000; Wanda Roach of Canton for $250; Ball Ground Mayor Rick Roberts for $250; and Louis Turchiarelli, a Marietta attorney, for $500.

Shriver reported $12,575 in contributions for the reporting period, with $15,355.56 in total expenditures, leaving his campaign with a deficit of $2,780.56. Shriver did not report any loans during this period.

Shriver itemized all of his contributions, even those donations below the $100 requirement.

Some notable contributors to Shriver’s campaign include Peter Gleichman, a Woodstock attorney, for $250 and former county commissioner and attorney Gil Howard with $250. Canton attorney Dana Thompson gave $250 and two contributions of $250 each from her law firm, Thompson, Meir and Kind P.C.

In his addendum statement, Shriver noted that “(he) has contributed $20,000 of his personal funds to pay expenses incurred (outside) contributions (to) the campaign. The reports did not include his personal contributions…”
