DEAR EDITOR:

Watched as much as I could of President Barack Obama’s “State of the Union Address.

With all that is facing our nation; economic stagnation and degradation, military morale and preparedness at an all-time low, national and municipal debt at an all-time high, once great American cities like Detroit in bankruptcy, American influence and prestige in the world at an all-time low, our president chooses to focus on politics. The president is a professional victim and has mastered the art of staying on top by dragging everyone around him to the bottom.

While Rome burns, Emperor Obama continues play his fiddle to the tune of “divide and conquer, cultivating new and old victims, pitting one segment of the voting population against the other. Black against white, male against female, wealthy against poor, young against old.

No foreign enemy or military power can boast of having done more to undercut and divide America domestically while simultaneously bringing about the decline of American influence abroad than our current president. And just as with Nero, Emperor Obama throws out one distraction after another to the masses, yearning for security, comfort and entertainment, while the destructive flames lick at the liberties and freedoms that once defined the promise of America.

We now have an emperor instead of a constitutionally limited executive. Last night we were informed that unless those elected to represent the will of the people bend to the will of the “president,” they will be ignored. Our emperor will proceed with his “phone and his pen.” The emperor’s will is supreme.

Contempt for the rule of law and strident disrespect for the constitution by this Administration and its “leader” have never been more brazen. It is time for those who know better to speak out.

Those who love liberty and care about the legacy of promise embodied in this democratic republic must be willing to step up, run for office, subject themselves to ridicule, sacrifice personal wealth/comfort and put the future of their children ahead of their own immediate comfort and security.

Every thinking American should be appalled and Emperor Obama ashamed. What was once inconceivable has become the stuff that presidential speeches are made of ... I think I smell smoke and I am beginning to see the flames.

Let’s get the bucket brigade together.

Jeff Duncan
