I immediately immersed myself in this special and picked up my note pad (always besides my chair) and began making pages of notes — it was as if I were back in college — learning about our Mother Earth things that were not available to me, or anyone else just a few years ago, but available now only because of the advance of science and the use of 120 satellites that now circle our earth.
The excitement of this experience stayed with me throughout the night and I woke still pondering what I had learned from this fascinating NOVA program the night before.
NOVA’s program caused me to remember a mentor’s counsel years ago to continually broaden my education, throughout my life, by studying out of the best books, and now TV programs about “things both in heaven and in the earth, and under the earth; things which have been, things which are, things which must shortly come to pass; things which are at home, things which are abroad; the wars and the perplexities of the nations, and the judgments which are on the land; and a knowledge also of countries and of kingdoms …” Life is a continual and exciting learning process.
I then reread Genesis 1. This chapter tells us that God created the earth along with his timetable for creating and organizing our earth. While this chapter does not tell us why God created our earth other scriptures tells us that he created and organized the earth as a proving ground for his spirit children who would, as Adam and Eve did, gain a mortal body.
I don’t know how anyone who watches this film, “Earth from Space” could ever doubt that God did indeed create and organize this earth. This truth came through to me as clearly as if God himself revealed to me how the earth was created.
Another mentor, Dr. Henry Eyring, a world renowned scientist whose book “The Faith of a Scientist,” played a major role in the development of my spiritual eyes, eyes to see God’s creative powers in action. This NOVA program opened my spiritual eyes even wider.
There is no way, in my opinion, this earth, as reviewed in this NOVA film, could have been created without divine intelligence. This film reinforced my strong beliefs about natural law. One can’t watch this film without realizing that “the Laws of Nature and of Natures God” are in full effect in the day-to-day movements of our earth.
Nor can anyone watch this film and not see divine intelligence in it unless they are like those Timothy describes in 2 Tim: 3:7, “Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.”
As I ponder the need for wisdom in America today, especially in Washington, I often reflect on the counsel received years ago to ponder deeply the words of James 1:5-6, words that read “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally ... But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.”
Little coming out of Washington reflects God’s wisdom these days, and if one listens to the rhetoric flowing out of the mouths of our elected officials today they need to be encouraged to read, and take counsel from the words of James.
They truly are being tossed about as a toy in wind-tossed seas. America is being tossed about in hurricane winds in a rudderless boat that will flounder and sink unless another Washington steps forward and reiterates his words of wisdom given to the Constitution Convention in 1787, words that read: “If, to please the people, we offer what we ourselves disapprove, how can we afterward defend our work? Let us raise a standard to which the wise and honest can repair. The event is in the hand of God.”
Washington would likely be laughed at today, but yet his counsel to the Founders was wisdom given to him by God. America rejects the Constitution at its own peril; it was the Founders, who, “with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence,” gave America its freedom.
