ACWORTH, Ga. (AP) — Paulding County sheriff's officials say a man accused of beating a 12-year-old boy to death has now been charged with murder and child cruelty.

Sheriff's officials said Wednesday they added the murder count to the charges faced by 32-year-old Shayaa Yusef Forbes based on the preliminary findings from an autopsy.

Cpl. Ashley Henson says police were sent to a house in Acworth Friday for a call about a reported drowning. Henson says a 12-year-old boy was found unconscious there and was pronounced dead at Paulding Wellstar Hospital.

Authorities say the boy suffered multiple bruises, bite marks, lacerations and other injuries consistent with abuse.

Forbes was being held without bond in the Paulding County Detention Center. It wasn't known whether he has an attorney.
