LAGRANGE, Ga. (AP) — Authorities have released the names of five people killed in a horrific head-on collision that injured two others southwest of LaGrange.

Both drivers died in the Friday night crash, Georgia State Patrol officials said. They were identified as 28-year-old Willie L. Hooks; and 23-year-old Melanie Kay Lemmon, both of LaGrange.

Three passengers in Lemmon’s car were also killed, the Columbus Ledger-Enquirer reported. They were identified as 1-year-old Quamauri C. Harrison; 37-year-old Miranda L. Hurston; and Tridarius Harrison, whose age was unavailable. All are from LaGrange.

Hooks was driving a northbound Oldsmobile Cutlass and was passing a vehicle in a no-passing zone when his car collided with a southbound Pontiac Grand Am being driven by Lemmon, according to the State Patrol.

“It looked like the back end of that car passed the front end,” a witness, John Hart, told the LaGrange Daily News. “The car was bent like an L and the back end was raised so you could see the gas tank and the shock absorbers.”

Hart, his wife and the people from the cars behind him and the single car in front of him got out and tried to render assistance to the victims, he told the Daily News. He said his wife and others checked for pulses of the man in the Cutlass and the women in the Pontiac and there were none.

“There was just complete silence, no moans not a sound,” he said.

Two more people — 15-year-old Jayvianna C. Hurston and 18-year-old Shaquavious S. Harrison — were critically injured and airlifted to hospitals in Atlanta and Columbus. Both were passengers in Lemmon’s car.
