It was also a charitable night as the track collected more than 3,000 non-perishable food items to donate to MUST Ministries. Dixie spokeswoman Mia Green said the total of donations fell short of their record collection, which exceeded 4,000, but they were pleased.
“It didn’t rain at Dixie, but the rain affected our crowd,” Green said. “As far as percentage goes, we were just very pleased. We think our race fans brought extra. The crowd was down because of the rain in the area, but to still collect that many cans, we were pleased. We were worried because of the weather, but when they did the final count and we saw that number, we were just thrilled.”
On the track, there was just as much excitement as more than 200 laps were run throughout the classes.
Doug Ludwig won both of the Crate Late Model races that were held and now trails Madeline Crane and George Ervin (tied at 56) by just eight points.
Crane finished second and third in the two races, while Ervin was fifth in both.
In the Cruisers, which ran three races on the night, Jimmy Wilson improved each time. Wilson finished third behind George Wilson and Joe Trantham in the first race, moved up to second in the second race and finally took the checkered flag in his third race of the night.
Jimmy Wilson took over the points standings with the strong showing. At 62 points, he leads Trantham (56), Todd Lankester (52) and George Wilson (48).
In the Super Late Models, which also ran two races, Michael Page maintained his hold on the points standings with second- and fourth-place showings. His 36 points lead Jody Knowles (32) and Jason Croft (30).
Tyler Millwood won the makeup race, but did not finish in the top 10 in the second race.
Other winners Saturday included Alan Brewer (Limited Late Model), Shane Smith (Econo Bomber), Shannon Ethridge (Pony Stock) and Kirk Atkins (Super Bomber).
With his victory, Smith moved into a tie for first with Dan Meadows in the Econo Bomber points standings at 50.
Drivers will be back on the track Saturday night as Dixie celebrates its 44th anniversary with a demolition derby.
