Police say the attacks took place within the last year at the Canton Wal-Mart and Ross Department Store at Riverstone Plaza shopping center.
Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman for the police department, said officers arrested John Deeyaa of Canton on Tuesday and charged him with two counts of sexual battery.
“The two separate incidents occurred within a year of each other and the stories were very similar (in) reference to the female victims,” Bailey said.
The second attack was reported by a Ross employee May 12.
The victim said Deeyaa, 55, was a regular customer at the department store located at 1445 Riverstone Parkway and had “pulled her into him trying to hug her then grabbed her chest,” Bailey said.
Deeyaa had also reportedly been bothering other female employees at Ross, Bailey said.
The first victim reported being attacked May 28, 2011, at Wal-Mart.
“Deeyaa also pulled her into his body as if to hug her and then touched her” in inappropriate places, Bailey said. Deeyaa had been interviewed after this first incident by police but not enough evidence was available for the police to take warrants on Deeyaa, the police spokesperson said.
Bailey said the department is looking for anyone else who may have been a victim of the unwanted sexual attention from Deeyaa.
Anyone with information in those incidents or in other unreported attacks is asked to contact the Canton Police Department at (770) 720-4883.
