Police are searching for a 57-year-old Powder Springs man who has been missing from Acworth for a week.

David Mazurek has not been seen since Sept. 5 when he was spotted walking near the intersection of Highway 92 and Bells Ferry Road, said Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.

Baker said Mazurek “possibly suffers from a diminished mental capacity” and was last seen wearing gray pants with a black and gold shirt and a white jacket with red and blue markings. He also wore leather deck shoes and a coral necklace, Baker said.

“Apparently this is not uncommon for him, this is not the first time he has left for an extended time, but this has been a longer time than usual and family and friends are getting concerned,” Baker said. “It is not unusual for him to leave for a couple of days, but it has now been a week and we are trying to get the word out.”

Baker said Mazurek may be with friends in Powder Springs, but he has not returned to his apartment since he disappeared.

“We have been in communication with his roommate and he has not shown up there, but hopefully someone will recognize him. Since he disappeared in Cherokee County, that is why the local law enforcement is handling it,” Baker said.

Anyone who has seen Mazurek or knows his whereabouts is urged to notify the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office at (678) 493-4080.
