Three years after its last trip to the state quarterfinals, Sequoyah is bound again after beating Starr’s Mill on Tuesday in a four-set second-round match of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

After the teams exchanged wins in the first two sets, the Lady Chiefs pulled back in front and won 25-12, 15-25, 25-15, 25-20.

Having stretched its winning streak to 28, Sequoyah (38-4) will now await its next opponent Saturday. The remaining eight teams in each classification will be reseeded, with the Lady Chiefs likely guaranteed a high seed and the chance to remain at home.

The last time Sequoyah reached the quarterfinals — John Edwards’ first season as coach after coming over from Creekview — it lost to Marist.

Kali Jones led the win over Starr’s Mill with a double-double of 13 kills and 14 digs. Logan Page nearly had a double-double as well before settling for 33 assists, eight digs, six kills and three blocks.

Lane Lauletta had 10 kills, four digs and a block, Kelley Hartman eight kills, five digs and four blocks and Lauren Hartman had four kills, five blocks and six digs. Kayla Morris also helped the defense with 15 digs.
