Sequoyah High School has been named to the 2013 “Best High Schools” in the U.S. list published by U.S. News & World Report.

Led by Principal Elliott Berman, the school is ranked the No. 18 best school in Georgia and No. 1,033 in the U.S., and received a National Silver Medal.

“Sequoyah High School is renowned locally and statewide for its academic achievement, athletic champions and outstanding fine arts program, and that reputation is continuing to spread at a national level,” said Superintendent of Schools Dr. Frank R. Petruzielo, noting that Sequoyah for the last 10 years has been named to other national best high schools list, including those published by the Washington Post and Newsweek.

“Honors like this one are a testament to the dedication at every level of Sequoyah High School —students, teachers, administrators, parents, volunteers, local businesses —and supports our belief that it takes the entire community working together to build successful schools,” he added.

Including Sequoyah, the magazine reviewed 21,000 public high schools throughout the U.S., 47 of which were Georgia schools, in making the list.

The rankings methodology factors in performance on standardized reading and math test results by all students, economically-disadvantaged students, participation in Advanced Placement testing and passage of those tests.
