On Wednesday night, the Canton Police Department arrested Juan Bautista, 18, and Oscar Falcon, 17, both of Canton. Police said Thursday the two young men robbed a man at gunpoint for his wallet near Marietta Road’s intersection with Coppermine Lane.
Officers set up a perimeter around the scene and conducted a K-9 search, later finding the suspects further down on Marietta Road, said Pacer Cordry, spokesman for Canton Police.
Cordry said Wednesday’s incident wasn’t the first in the area of Marietta Road near downtown.
“Detectives are still conducting further investigations into a string of armed robberies in this area,” Cordry said. “The Canton Police Department is encouraging citizens who live in this part of the city to be mindful of their surroundings while walking, especially in the evening or early morning hours.”
Cordry said several of the other incidents also seemed similar to the one Wednesday, and detectives are considering the possibility Bautista and Falcon could have been involved in the other robberies as well.
“We’re heavily looking into it, because of the proximity and the nature of the crime,” Cordry said. “We think there’s a possibility.”
Bautista and Falcon were charged with armed robbery and aggravated assault, Cordry said.
They are being held at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center without bond, and Bautista is being held for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office.
