Threats of freezing rain on Friday shut down Cherokee County schools and kept many motorists off the roads, but streets and highways remained mostly clear.
Road crews worked early Friday to put down salt and gravel on bridges and overpasses.
Although activities at schools were cancelled Friday evening, the Cherokee County School District resumes normal extra-curricular activities today and Sunday.
Cherokee County remained under a freezing rain advisory until 6 p.m. Friday.
The Cherokee County Office of Emergency manager reported a thin glaze of ice mostly on above-ground surfaces of some area roadways.
Northeast Georgia appeared to be under the greatest threat of ice-coated roads.
The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning for 10 counties in northeast Georgia, where up to a quarter of an inch of ice was possible.
Several school systems closed Friday. They included Forsyth and Hall County schools in the northeast part of the Atlanta metro area.
Most of the Atlanta metro area and northwest Georgia were under a freezing rain advisory through 1 p.m. Friday.
