State Rep. Calvin Hill dies after battle with cancer

CANTON — State Rep. Calvin Hill (R-Canton) died Wednesday after a battle with cancer. He represented District 22.

Hill was elected to the state House of Representatives in 2002 and was mayor of Ball Ground for two terms prior to that.

He participated in the founding of Cherokee Bank and has been on the boards of the YMCA, March of Dimes, United Way, the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, the Anna Crawford Children’s Advocacy Center and the Rotary Club of Canton.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was the founder of a number of successful businesses.

Hill was serving as vice chairman of the House Appropriations Committee and Banks and Banking Committee. He was also on the Budget and Fiscal Affairs Oversight Committee, State Institutions and Property and Special Rules Committees.

He was an active member of the Canton First United Methodist Church.

Hill is survived by his wife Cheryl Hill, six children and three grandchildren.
