The Telegraph reports that one idea for Engine 509 in Central City Park is to rebuild it and use it as an excursion train taking passengers to other parts of Georgia.
Earlier this year, Hartwell Railroad Co. workers stripped asbestos and old paint from the engine.
Ben Hamrick, business service manager for Bibb County Parks & Recreation, says workers returned in the past two weeks for more work on the engine and said they were preparing to roll it away on its own wheels.
Hartwell Railroad Co. owner Bennie Ray Anderson Sr. wasn’t available for comment on more specifics of the plans.
