CANTON — A 19-year-old has been charged with shoplifting in a string incidents at the local Target after he was identified with help from the public and turned himself in on Friday, but police are still looking for another possible suspect.

Jacob Corey Kelcourse of Canton was charged with four counts of misdemeanor shoplifting. He was released from the Cherokee County Detention Center on a $1,000 bond.

The arrest came after Canton Police Department asked for help from the public last week in identifying two suspects wanted for shoplifting at the Target store at Canton Marketplace.

Police security photos from the store taken of the suspects believed to be responsible for shoplifting video games and electronic equipment during a series of visits to the store were released by Lt. German Rivas, uniform patrol division commander.

Rivas said Tuesday that police now believe the two suspects were not related and they are still trying to identify the other man.

The first known incident occurred on Sept. 8 when one of the suspects allegedly entered the store and made off with a set of headphones that were removed from their packaging.

Over the next week the suspects are believed to have taken around $700 in merchandise from the store.

The suspects usually left the store on foot and walked toward Dick’s Sporting Goods store, according to the police report. The type of vehicle used by the suspects is unknown.

On Sept. 9 the store employee confronted one of the suspects as he appeared to be leaving the store and recovered the electronic equipment he had in his possession, which he said he did not want, according to the police report.
