Officers with the Canton Police Department arrested two men Friday on charges of giving a false report of a crime.

David Richardson, 23, and Joshua Jackson, 22, were both charged with false reporting and were taken to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center, according to Officer Pacer Cordry of the Canton Police Department.

Both are residents of Chattanooga, Tenn., police said.

Richardson alleged that he had been robbed in the area of Riverstone Plaza shortly before noon, according to police officials.

Additionally, Richardson told officers he had been hit in the head with an object by two white men. He stated that the men had stolen $8,000 from him and fled the scene in a white vehicle, Cordry said.

Jackson alleg-edly made false statements in regard to what he had witnessed, Cordry said in a press release.

Detectives determined Richardson and Jackson’s stories to be fabricated after interviewing them, according to the release.

“Detectives discovered money and evidence in Richardson’s vehicle that they believe may be part of a larger scam,” Cordry said.

The case is still under investigation.

The two suspects were being booked into the Detention Center by Canton Police late Friday afternoon.
