WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Convention and Visitors Bureau announced Tuesday it received $12,000 in grant funds that will help with technology upgrades at its visitors center and install three information kiosks throughout the city.

Kyle Bennett, assistant director for tourism and visitors center operations, announced the grant approval at Monday’s City Council meeting.

Two of the kiosks will be located in the downtown area and one will be placed near the new Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta along Ridgewalk Parkway.

The grant funds came from the Georgia Department of Economic Development’s 2013 Tourism Product Development Agreement Program, which financially supports tourism development activities at the local level that sustain and create jobs and also supports Georgia’s creative economies with an emphasis on local artists and the nonprofit arts industry.

“Creating new tourism product in Georgia is essential to the success of our tourism industry,” said Kevin Langston, deputy commissioner for tourism for the Georgia Department of Economic Development. “We are thrilled to have the opportunity to partner with the Georgia Council for the Arts to create jobs and investment opportunities across the state.”

The Georgia Department of Economic Development awarded $180,000 to 18 tourism and art entities throughout the state.

The department received 72 applications, amounting to nearly $1 million in requests.
