DEAR EDITOR:

I’m just wondering why all the fuss over electing Board of Education commissioners by district.

I can’t vote for a U.S. representative in Macon or Savannah; and I can’t vote for a U.S. senator from Iowa or Kansas.

I’m wondering if corporations are now considered to be individuals, why aren’t they taxed liked individuals?

I’m just wondering why don’t we extend Dr. P’s contract until 2016 ... so he can face the wrath of voters when they see what he has done with the ED-SPLOST monies (i.e. no way the money will be paid off as promised).

I’m just wondering when the people will finally get fed up with the nickel and diming (penny and penny) taxing of themselves ... e.g. SPLOST, ED-SPLOST, HSPLOST, and TSPLOST (coming) ... by my calculation, that’s close to $1,000 per year they have added to our taxes.

As the population increases so do the costs to provide services such as schools, fire, police, roads, parks, etc. Those services cost money and we have only two options to collect the revenue needed to cover those expenses, property taxes or sales tax (SPLOST).

The majority of residents have chosen to increase the sales tax as this allows for people visiting our county to contribute as well. Personally I support any measure that reduces our property tax bill as I would much rather pay a little bit more for each purchase I make.

The only alternative is to lock the gate at the county line and not allow any more people to move to Cherokee County. Until you find a way to make that happen costs to provide services will continue to rise and the revenue to pay for those services will need to be raised. I am happy that we as citizens have the ability to choose how we prefer to pay those taxes.

Anonymous is right, as the population increases so do the costs. We could however affectivaly lock the gate if the immigration laws of this country were enforced.
