FLINT, Mich. (AP) — A man charged in a series of fatal stabbings in Michigan has been accused of assaulting jail officers.

Genesee County authorities say officers used a stun gun on Elias Abuelazam (ee-lee-AHS’ A’-boo-LAH’-zuhm) after he tried to punch a guard in the county jail Oct 27. He was arraigned Thursday on charges of assaulting an officer.

Abuelazam’s attorney did not immediately respond to a call seeking comment Friday.

Abuelazam faces a Nov. 12 hearing to determine whether there’s probable cause to send him to trial in one of the three murder cases. He also faces five charges of attempted murder in Michigan and one in Ohio.

The 33-year-old was arrested in Atlanta in August as he was about to board a plane to Tel Aviv.
