The driver was identified by police as Jeffrey Kyle Stanley of Gainesville.
Stanley was pronounced dead on the scene by rescue workers and transported to Northside at Cherokee Hospital. The accident is under investigation by the Canton Police Traffic Enforcement Unit.
Sgt. Stacy Bailey, spokeswoman for the Canton Police Department, said someone called 911 just before 3 p.m. to report a reckless driver who was driving at a high rate of speed and disregarding all traffic lights.
Tim Cavender, spokesman for Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services, said the county fire services and the Canton Fire Department responded to the accident on East Main Street at Highway 20 in Canton shortly after the 911 call.
Stanley, who was driving a blue Mazda 3 hatchback, was ejected from the vehicle, Cavender said.
“Emergency service personnel arrived on the scene to find the driver with a faint pulse,” Cavender said. “A life-flight helicopter was dispatched to the accident, but was later cancelled after the driver was pronounced dead at the scene.”
Cavender said no other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved in the accident.
East Main Street at Brown Industrial Boulevard to Chamlee Lane was closed following the wreck, but reopened shortly after 4 p.m.
