BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) _ A Brunswick man facing the death penalty in the 2009 slayings of eight people including his father has been charged under a new indictment.

Prosecutors say they indicted 24-year-old Guy Heinze Jr. for a second time to sidestep a challenge by defense attorneys, who wanted a judge to throw out the original indictment because one of the grand jurors had a felony record.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson said Tuesday the new indictment obtained last week voids the old one, but it contains the exact same charges.

Heinze is charged with murder in the August 2009 slayings of his father and seven members of an extended family found beaten to death inside a Brunswick mobile home. Pre-trial motions in the case are scheduled to be heard the week of June 18.
