OK, as I understand it, Senate Majority Leader Chip Rogers was on the radio in 1999, predicting the outcomes of ballgames. Some people used this information to bet on the games, which was, and is, illegal.

Oh the humanity!

Now, the Georgia Christian Coalition, following the teaching of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, has allowed that he not only should not be reelected, but he should resign his leadership position in the state Senate.

After all, wasn't it Him who said, " Get thee into the mud of politics and grovel thou there, in My name." It wasn't? Oops! My bad.

In the interest of full disclosure, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior 53 years ago. I spent 40 years on the radio, during which time there were certainly occasions when I was very thankful that being a Christian was about being forgiven, not perfect. Also, I've already been told by a higher power that I could not run for office. My wife, who is smarter and wiser than me, said, "Absolutely not!"

I don't have a dog in this hunt. Vote for whichever candidate floats your boat. But I surely would prefer a discussion of Chip Rogers' job performance over nonsense like this.

You don't believe that one's character is an important element that must be considered? If we put this aside, we are accepting what might be potentially criminal behavior by our public servants.

Would you also apply the same logic to Sheriff Garrison because of the KKK controversy in his youth? Think about loosing a sheriff who has had good performance for a number of years and not a hint of racism and a Senator who has kept state spending at the lowest rate in the US and helped to lower county property assessments and offer freedom of choice in education for all. The important thing about this journey called life is how you elevate the values in your life over time and serve your community with grace and dignity.
