23 graduate from Woodstock Police Academy

WOODSTOCK — The Woodstock Police Department last month graduated 23 from its Citizens Police Academy.

Police Chief Calvin Moss handed out diplomas at Magnolia Hall.

Those graduating include Patrick Allen, Theresa Basford, Norma Blanco, Timothy Boyd, Courtney Brazie, Willie Burgess, Darrel Cantrell, Rebecca Carroll, Joseph Caruso, James Clark, Torres Cordera, Katrina Davis, Victoria Hand, Chris Kessler, Richard Kramer, Demetria Lane, Larry McDonald, Melissa McDonald, Jay Murphy, Candice Nesbitt, Juan Quiroga, William Wilson and Tyler Yorke.

The Citizens Police Academy is an eight-week program that provides classes designed to enhance citizens’ understanding of the various aspects of law enforcement.

It is also designed to connect and strengthen the citizens’ role with the department as well as inform residents about the risks and responsibilities law enforcement officials face in their profession.

Some of the classes taught during the academy include domestic violence response, criminal investigation procedures, crime prevention, traffic unit and patrol officer functions, and K-9 demonstrations.

Graduates are eligible for volunteer positions or to pursue positions with the department’s auxiliary’s unit.
