Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services was dispatched to the accident shortly after 4 a.m. on Highway 372 near the Conns Creek Road intersection.
Emergency service personnel arrived on scene to find the tractor-trailer had run off the highway, gone down an embankment and struck some trees.
The male driver of the truck was trapped in the truck and had to be extricated.
Battalion Chief Dan Floyd, said that it was one of the most difficult extrications that he had seen.
The driver was conscious and alert, but had some major injuries to his legs.
A life-flight helicopter was dispatched to the scene, but was later canceled because of the weather. The driver was transported by ambulance to North Fulton Hospital.
Highway 372 was shut down for several hours until the wreckage was cleared from the area.
No other injuries were reported and no other vehicles were involved.
The cause of the accident was under investigation.
