Beatrice Josephine Peltier Mitchell, 86, of Canton, formerly of Columbus and Sky Valley, GA, died of natural causes on July 14, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Dr. John William Mitchell. Born and raised in Columbus, Bea graduated from Jordan Vocational High School in 1942, and was a member of Beta Sigma Phi. She joined the Garden Club of Georgia and became president of both the Southwood Garden Club in Clayton County and The Garden Club of Sky Valley in Rabun County. Bea was a lifelong Methodist and a member of The Chapel of Sky Valley. Her children Claire Mitchell Banton of Woodstock, George and Angie Cooper Mitchell of Canton, and John and Dianne Cheves Mitchell of Lilburn survive her. Her grandchildren Emily Banton Halstead of Sandy Springs, Rebekah, Jessica, and Jonathan Mitchell of Canton, her great-grandson Aiden Christopher Halstead, two sisters, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive her. Two memorial services are planned. The first will be held Saturday, July 21, 2:00 p.m. at Hickory Flat United Methodist Church, Canton. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 Noon at HFUMC. The second service will be held Saturday, July 28, 2:00 p.m. at Parkhill Cemetery, Columbus. Memorial contributions may be made to Southwood Garden Club, 6482 Debbie Sue Lane, Morrow, GA 30260, or to The United Methodist Children’s Home of Georgia.

I have many fond memories of my Aunt Bea; she will always be in our hearts.
