This will be the sheriff’s last term in office, Garrison said.
Garrison defeated challenger David Waters, a commander with the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, with 68.6 percent, or 26,511 votes. Waters garnered 31.36 percent, or 12,113 votes.
Garrison said he was “very excited” with the results of the race.
The sheriff added he felt his campaign reached out to voters by going door to door in an effort to meet and greet prospective voters.
“People here are pleased with the operations of the sheriff’s office,” he said, adding his department remains under budget. “We’re very proud of what seems to be a resounding victory.
Waters did not return calls for comment.
The sheriff noted his record with the sheriff’s office was a positive attribute that escorted him to victory.
Garrison added he will continue to improve in areas where he can and is also “excited” about continuing to build the relationships with the county’s police chiefs.
Garrison, 51, has been serving as sheriff for 20 years. He and wife, Shelia, live in Canton and have one adult son, Wesley.
