ACWORTH — Five men were arrested Thursday after the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad conducted a drug bust at the Peaks at Bells Ferry apartments in Acworth.

Lt. Jay Baker, spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, said CMANS agents executed a search warrant at one of the apartments and arrested Charles Elliot, 37, of Acworth on suspicion of possession of crack cocaine with intent to distribute; 46-year-old Richard Hudson of Lithonia on suspicion of sale of cocaine and 37-year-old Germaine Fludd of Acworth on suspicion of sale of cocaine and possession of marijuana.

CMANS Commander Phil Price said his unit had been conducting a two-month investigation into the three living in the apartment on Peaks Ridge.

As they were concluding the arrests, the officers saw a vehicle enter the apartment complex with the driver “driving slowly and sort of looking around,” Price said.

Price said plainclothes CMANS agents approached the vehicle and saw the driver, Alexander Verrucci, 30, of Marietta holding a revolver under his right leg.

Verrucci and the other man in the car, Keith Vance Jr., 30, of Dallas, were then searched and deputies found drugs on their person and in the car, Baker said.

“We were just in the right place at the right time,” Price said.

Verrucci was arrested and charged with possession and intent to distribute Schedule II and Schedule IV controlled substances, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and possession of marijuana.

Vance was arrested on suspicion of possession of marijuana.

Neither of the two men were residents of the apartment complex and did not give any information as to why they were in the area, Price said.

“As we continue to investigate it, we will follow up on the leads,” Price said. “At this time we’re not sure if there is a connection between the two (incidents.)”

Baker said all the suspects remain in custody at Cherokee Adult Detention Center, with Fludd and Hudson being held without bond.

Elliot’s bond is set at $11,200, Verrucci’s bond is set at $56,955 and Vance’s bond is set at $955.

Price said the total value of drugs recovered Thursday was approximately $5,305, including 22.4 grams of crack-cocaine valued at $2,800 and 2 grams of marijuana valued at $60, found in the apartment.

Recovered form the car were 56 Oxycodone pills, valued at $2,240; four Aplrazolam (generic Xanax) pills, valued at $80 and less than an ounce of marijuana, valued at $125.
