Lawrenceville residents Andra Westmoreland, 21, Sharece McCowan, 30, and Damon Johnson, Jr. 20, are in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with no bond in connection with an alleged home invasion that disrupted a family of five early Monday morning, authorities said.
The men have been charged with armed robbery, aggravated assault and false imprisonment.
Holly Springs Police responded to a call around 2 a.m. Monday at a home on Amylou Circle in the Riverside subdivision, located off Holly Springs Parkway.
Two armed suspects broke into the home and forced a family of five to lie face down on the floor with the hands behind their backs as the suspects searched their home, according to a Holly Springs Police press release.
A female member of the family suffered minor injuries when she was struck in the face during the incident, said Lt. Tanya Anderson, public information officer. Anderson added jewelry was taken from the home.
One member of the family was able to call Cherokee County E-911, but one of the suspects told him to inform the dispatcher everything was fine and they were getting a visit from a friend, authorities said.
The two suspects later fled the home on foot. However, officers were dispatched to the scene and confronted Westmoreland, who was sitting in a van parked outside the home, authorities said.
Westmoreland fled the scene, and two Holly Springs officers pursued Westmoreland in the van, which was traveling southbound on Holly Springs Parkway, authorities said.
Officers notified Woodstock Police, who then set up stop sticks along Ridgewalk and Ford parkways. Westmoreland ran over the stop sticks, lost control and crashed the van at the intersection of Woodstock and Ford parkways, police said.
He was taken into custody at the scene and was also charged with fleeing and attempting to elude officers, authorities said.
Meanwhile, at the home, Cherokee Sheriff’s Office deputies responded as backup to the home in Holly Springs and residents informed officers the suspects fled the home earlier.
Both Woodstock and Holly Springs K-9 units and officers searched the area, but were unable to locate them.
Around 7 a.m., officers approached a woman driving through the area while talking on her cellphone, authorities said. Officers said the woman looked “as if she was looking for someone.”
Officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested both Johnson and McCowan without incident.
