TOWNE LAKE — Two more flags belonging to the Towne Lake Optimist Club have been recovered after a church member found them outside Bascomb United Methodist Church, according to Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office officials.

The flags were discovered last Sunday morning, as they had been left overnight outside the church located at 2245 Bascomb Carmel Road in Woodstock, Lt. Jay Baker said.

“A member brought them inside because they thought the flags belonged to the church but it was later determined they were the ones that were the flags that belonged to the Optimist Club,” Baker said.

The Rev. Millie Kim, the church’s preacher, contacted the sheriff’s office Thursday night and the flags were recovered Friday, Baker said.

In total, four of the nine flags missing since Labor Day have been recovered after a 16-year-old told the club at its Wednesday luncheon he took two of the flags.

However, Martin Glanzer, chairman of the “Avenue of Flags” program that distributes the custom-made flags, said 16 flags had been taken since Memorial Day, but said the additional flags were not reported as stolen.

Anyone who may have the missing flags is asked to leave them at the Eagle Watch neighborhood clubhouse, located at 3045 Clubhouse Drive in Woodstock.

Club members announced at Wednesday’s event they will not seek prosecution if the flags are returned, Glanzer said.
