Waleska is the only city in the county that does not allow alcohol sales.
Waleska City Council will have a public hearing and the first reading in its approval of citywide beer and wine package sales at its meeting Monday night.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at Waleska City Hall, located at 8891 Fincher Road.
The reading was initially delayed after the council voted at its Aug. 20 meeting to table the first reading of the proposed changes.
The council voted to move forward with beer and wine package sales for retail stores within the city in a 6-1 vote at its Aug. 6 meeting, with Councilman Paul Ice voting against the measure.
City Clerk Aimee Abernathy said a copy of the proposed ordinance is available for public review at City Hall from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday.
The council will also have the first reading of the amendment changing the city’s zoning ordinance to include beer and wine package sales, as well as the first reading of the corresponding alcoholic beverage excise tax ordinance.
In other business, the council will discuss surplus property.
