Lydia Bordacs, 57, died in the accident on South Cherokee Drive in Woodstock after the SUV she was driving crashed into a tree, according to the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, which was first on the scene.
The accident happened about 10:20 p.m.
The deputy who responded to the accident performed CPR on Bordacs before paramedics arrived and transported her to WellStar Kennestone Hospital where she was pronounced dead, Sheriff’s Office Spokesperson Lt. Jay Baker said.
The only passenger in the vehicle was Bordacs’ son, 33-year-old Peter Kubanyi of Smyrna. Kubanyi received non-life-threatening injuries and was also transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital, Baker said.
“The passenger of the vehicle had exited the car, but was unable to get the driver’s door open,” Baker said in a release. “Working together the deputy and passenger were able to open the door and discovered the driver unresponsive inside the vehicle.”
The Cherokee Sheriff’s Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the accident.
Preliminary indications are that alcohol and speed played a role in the accident, Baker said in the release.
