What actually happened with the general election of 2012? To put it simply nothing changed. We remain at “Status Quo” politically speaking but socially the next four years will bring big changes.

One major change will be the implementation of the “Affordable Health Care Act”. The individual mandate now appears to be unavoidable and will shock many people especially when the IRS begins leveling fines on people for not having government mandated health insurance. Will these fines hurt the rich? No, but they will hurt the poor and middle class who in this economy can least afford it.

Make no mistake, according to the Supreme Court the “Affordable Health Care Act” is a tax so those fines are tax penalties.

Another major change is a new under-30-hour work week. I know you think a 40-hour work week is the law but your employer sets your hours according to their need.

If you’re “not needed” for a full 40 hours your employer can change your hours. They may tell you a variety of reasons but because of the “Affordable Health Care Act” if an employee’s work schedule is less than 30 hours a week a company can consider that employee part time.

Companies can avoid offering health coverage and paying fines for part-time employees. Part-time employees must still provide their own health insurance under the new law or face personal fines from the IRS.

In the future new jobs will be mainly part time without any benefits and at lower pay. Again this will not hurt the rich but it will hurt the poor and middle class.

That’s just some of the changes that are coming as we move “forward” off the fiscal cliff. Now is that the “Hope and Change” you really wanted?
