City officials and residents will join together on Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. with the Cherokee County Volunteer Aging Council for the Tree of Hope event at the Historic Train Depot and Holly Springs Community Center in the downtown area.
The Tree of Hope will be decorated with ornaments from $10 donations in memory or in honor of loved ones and the proceeds will be used to help elderly residents through the Last Stop program of the Aging Council.
“We wanted to create a community event which, while a celebration, also gives back to the community,” said Jennifer Stanley, events coordinator with the city of Holly Springs. “ We chose the Volunteer Aging Council because we have participated with them before and built a relationship and felt this was a group that helps many residents here.”
The Last Stop program provides assistance to elderly residents who have no where else to turn and have exhausted all possible assistance. It helps with utility bills, prescriptions, doctor’s visits and other needs.
“They sometimes build a ramp, or whatever is necessary,” Stanley said of the program.
All contributions received by Nov. 26 will be recognized at the tree lighting ceremony. There will be light refreshments and entertainment at the event.
“We hope everyone will bring their families and come out to support this community event,” Stanley said.
The Tree of Hope is also sponsored this holiday season by Northside Cherokee Hospital and Holly Springs Downtown Development Authority.
