Padric Feeley colored Hootie the Wise Old Owl and answered the question “When I graduate, I’m going to be a ____.” Feeley plans to be a train conductor.
“Padric loves mechanical things like trains and construction equipment. This contribution to his future will help Padric achieve his goals whatever they may be as the years go by,” said Kathleen Feeley, Padric’s mother. “We appreciate this gift to him and to the school. Hopefully many other kids like Padric will take the early education they get at preschools like Dogwood Hills Academy and become exceptional adults in the years to come.”
Feeley’s Pre-K school, Dogwood Hills Academy, also won $1,000, which the school plans to use to purchase electronic tablets for its Georgia Pre-K Program.
The tablets will create a new learning center for the program, emphasizing math and communication skills. The age-appropriate apps will allow the children to learn at their individual levels with teacher assistance and guidance.
Sabrina Collier, director of Dogwood Hills Academy said that the purchase of the tablets will allow the school to continue its cutting-edge program and concentrate on the Cherokee County School District’s emphasis on science, technology, engineering and math learning.
“I am very excited about Padric winning this contest and starting his college savings at such a young age,” said Collier. “Padric has been at our school for several years, and it is exciting to see his growth and development over the years.”
The sweepstakes was conducted by the Path2College 529 Plan to recognize College Savings Month in September and raise awareness about financial planning for higher education.
The sweepstakes was available to Georgia children in pre-kindergarten through fifth grade, and Feeley was selected randomly from the more than 1,600 entries.
In addition to the coloring sweepstakes, the Path2College 529 Plan is also offering a newborn sweepstakes open to Georgia residents.
The sweepstakes will award one lucky Georgia newborn $5,529 toward his/her college savings. Georgia babies born between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2012 are eligible.
Parents and grandparents of 2012 newborns can enter for a chance to win through April 14, 2013. For information visit www.path2college529.com.
